Port Angeles Lefties Fill Final 2017 Coaching Positions
Brandon Templer and Damon Porter Join Lefties Coaching Staff
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE—Port Angeles, WA—November 22, 2016 The Port Angeles Lefties have named their final two coaches for the inaugural season of Lefties Baseball. The West Coast League’s newest team welcomes Hitting/Defense Coach Brandon Templer and Bullpen Coach Damon Porter.
“We’re excited to have both Brandon and Damon. I have a long history with both of these coaches. Tremendous respect for them on and off the field,” said Lefties Owner Matt Acker. “Brandon brings an intensity to the field every day. He got out of the game for a few years and worked West Port Marina in Grays Harbor. He came back to help resurrect the GH College team with Coach Bruener. Brandon’s fortitude and work ethic will be well received in Port Angeles and by the players.”
Brandon Templer – Hitting/Defense Coach
Coach Templer joins the Port Angeles Lefties from Hoquiam, WA, where he is a catching coach for Grays Harbor College. Originally from Missoula, MT, Templer played at North Idaho College (1998), Grays Harbor College (1999, All League Catcher) and Central Washington University (2000-2002, All Conference Catcher). He also spent three years in the Pacific International League for the Grays Harbor Reign (1999-2002) and privately trained catchers and hitters before coming on as an Assistant Coach at Grays Harbor College. Templer likes wake surfing on Flathead Lake in Montana with his wife of 12 years, Darci, and their three children Camden, Jake and Avery.
Damon Porter – Bullpen Coach
Coach Porter joins Lefties Baseball as a Bullpen Coach. Known as a mean right-hander for the West Coast League’s West Coast Guns, Porter started at Olympia High School and went on to pitch for Central Arizona College and Faulkner University. He had pro offers, but chose to spend three years working fires for the Forest Service. Porter has coached bullpen for Edmonds College and been an Assistant Coach for the West Coast Guns and Kitsap BlueJackets. He plays hard off the field too, snowboarding and hiking with his dog. Porter is also an amateur photographer and writer and an aspiring sports psychologist.
“I had the opportunity to coach Damon at Green River,” said Acker. He was an outstanding pitcher, a leader and, most importantly, a great person. I offered him head coach and pitching coach at different levels in the system and he wanted to be in Port Angeles. He coached for us last summer on multiple teams. Damon played in our system, he knows exactly what we are about.”
